Grandson Jason Carter, 48 years old, shared with Southern Living Magazine about his grandfather’s condition after 16 months at a nursing home in Plains (Georgia).

Former President Carter arrived at the nursing home in February 2023. At the age of 100, he is the oldest living person among US Presidents.

In the 19th month after arriving at the nursing home, his beloved wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter, passed away just 2 days after reuniting with her husband at the nursing home.

Mr. Jason Carter said his grandfather no longer wakes up every day and his health condition changes from day to day. Relatives of the former US leader often visit.

During a recent visit, grandson Jason told his grandfather that when people asked how he was doing, all he could say was, “Honestly, I don’t know.” Hearing this statement, the former US President smiled slightly and replied: “I don’t know myself.”

Initially, the Carter family thought the convalescence trip would only be short-term, but did not expect the former president to be here for the past 16 months.

The grandson said that his grandfather’s health situation has not changed much compared to previous times.

In March last year, CNN quoted Jimmy Carter expressing his wish for current President Joe Biden to give a eulogy after his death.
