Prince Harry to Receive Pat Tillman Award for Service at 2024 ESPYS
LOS ANGELES — Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is set to receive the prestigious Pat Tillman Award for Service at the upcoming 2024 ESPYS, hosted by tennis star Serena Williams. The award, presented annually by ESPN, honors individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities through sports and service.
Prince Harry, a former member of the British armed forces and founder of the Invictus Games Foundation, has been recognized for his dedication to supporting wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women worldwide. The Invictus Games, now in its 10th year, has become an international platform that promotes rehabilitation and healing through sports, bringing together competitors from 23 nations.
The award ceremony, scheduled for July 11, will also recognize former NFL safety Steve Gleason, battling ALS, with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, and basketball coach Dawn Staley with the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance.
Serena Williams, a close friend of Meghan Markle, has been selected to host the ESPYS, marking yet another collaboration between the tennis legend and the royal family. Williams and Markle’s friendship has spanned over a decade, evolving from their first meeting at a Super Bowl party to Williams’ attendance at the royal wedding in 2018 and Meghan’s baby shower in New York City.
Prince Harry’s recognition underscores his ongoing commitment to using sport as a tool for social change and supporting those who have served their countries. His receipt of the Pat Tillman Award highlights not only his personal contributions but also his role in advancing the legacy of athletes who have dedicated themselves to service beyond the field.
