‘Kinds of Kindness ‘ directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone , shocked the Cannes Film Festival on the evening of May 17 with stories about sex cults, cannibalism and debauchery.

Kinds of Kindness  (sequel to Poor Things also by Yorgos Lanthimos ) received a standing ovation lasting nearly 5 minutes when shown at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Poor Things just won 4 Oscars 2024, including the Best Actress category for Emma Stone .

Yorgos Lanthimos and the cast including Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn… left the auditorium while the applause continued.

Kinds of Kindness tells three distinctive stories with a cast of actors playing different roles in each story. The film – like many of Lanthimos’ pioneering films – is filled with unexpected twists as well as some quirky moments accompanied by Emma Stone’s breakdancing moves. There are also dishes not for the weak of stomach, as well as a series of images of mutilation and violence that may scare viewers. Interspersed throughout the work is humor, making the Cannes audience seem to enjoy it.
