In a recent statement, political activist and prominent writer Candace Owens has voiced a strong opinion that renowned swimmer Lia Thomas should be banned from participating in women’s sports. Owens raised this issue amidst a widespread debate about gender identity in sports.
Lia Thomas, who previously competed on the men’s swim team at the University of Pennsylvania before transitioning to female, has sparked controversy by excelling in women’s sports after her transition. In this context, Candace Owens expressed her firm stance on the matter.
Owens argued that allowing athletes like Thomas to compete in women’s sports is unjust and undermines fairness in competition. She emphasized that biological sex cannot be disregarded, and transitioning does not erase the biological advantages one has from birth.
In her speech, Owens also highlighted that allowing male athletes to transition to female and then compete at such high levels also opens the door to system abuse, potentially leading to less skilled male athletes transitioning to female to achieve easier success.
Finally, Owens called on sports administrators and political authorities to take action to safeguard fairness and equity in women’s sports. She proposed the need for specific and clear regulations to ensure that transitioning does not threaten fairness and the competitive spirit in sports.
Candace Owens’ viewpoint has quickly garnered attention and sparked debate on social media and within the sports community. Amidst changes and controversies related to gender and sports, questions about fairness and equity are becoming increasingly important
