Pop superstar Billie Eilish has revealed how she was ‘haunted’ by an old friend and talked about the loneliness of fame.
Speaking on the podcast Miss Me? BBC with hosts Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver, Billie Eilish said she had an unforgettable time with a “ghost”.
“Ghosting” is the word Eillish uses to refer to suddenly being cut off from a friend or partner without explanation. She said her experience was “crazy, really unbelievable”.
“It was someone I had known for many years. One day, through an acquaintance’s phone call, I learned he had disappeared. Never heard from him again,” the singer said.
Then the singer saw him dating someone else. “I really didn’t know he did that,” she added.
Eilish also opened up about how she lost friends when she became famous.
“I suddenly became famous and couldn’t contact anyone. It was difficult. It was really difficult,” she said.
While her best friend Zoe remained by her side, Eilish said her other friends gradually distanced herself.
“On my 20th birthday, I remember looking around the room and seeing only the people I recruited. And they were all 15 years or more older than me,” she said.
When one of those employees suddenly quit, Eilish said they stopped being friends.
“And that was the worst thing that happened that made me realize that this is work. If they leave me, they will never see me again,” Eilish admitted.
