Earlier today, Musk said on social platforms that his artificial intelligence startup xAI will spend at least $9 billion to buy 300,000 Nvidia B200 AI chips.


B200 is the first Blackwell chip launched by Nvidia in March this year, claiming to be “the most powerful chip in the world”. On June 2, Huang Jensen said the B200 had begun production. According to information revealed by Mr. Huang in March this year, the price of the B200 GPU could range from 30,000 to 40,000 USD.

Additionally, a few days ago, xAI just completed a $6 billion Series B funding, with a market valuation of $24 billion. Musk said the majority of the money raised in this funding round will be used to lease and purchase AI chips.

And as previously reported by The Information, xAI plans to build a large-scale supercomputer to enhance the artificial intelligence chat robot Grok. The supercomputer, which Musk calls a “supercomputing factory,” is expected to be ready by fall 2025 and may involve a partnership with Oracle. In a speech to investors, Musk revealed that the new supercomputer will use up to 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs based on the Hopper architecture.
