A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) investigator said the case began several weeks ago, after authorities received a series of “specific, detailed and clear” allegations against the 54-year-old rapper.
The public first learned of the allegations against Diddy when the rapper’s ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, filed a civil lawsuit in November 2023. She accused Diddy of raping her with force and drugs for more than a decade. The case was later settled out of court, but was followed by three other lawsuits alleging sexual assault, all of which Diddy strongly denied.
Officials said a federal judge approved the search warrant on March 25, confiscating hard drives, phones and other evidence. They are searching for “pictures, emails, texts, itineraries, names” on their electronic devices.
In a statement on March 26, Diddy’s attorney criticized the raids as “an excessive abuse of military-grade force when a search warrant was executed at Mr. Combs’ residence” and vowed Diddy’s innocence.
In addition to the search, authorities are questioning victims and witnesses, including three women and a man who are suing Diddy in civil court. They said they were all very cooperative and provided a lot of information because they wanted to see the male rapper brought to justice.
Diddy was blocked from boarding a private plane leaving the US on March 25 and is believed to have stayed in Florida since then. The male rapper is being investigated but has not been charged and is still free.
Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, founded the Bad Boy record label in 1993, contributing to making hip hop a popular global brand. The male rapper has many other stage names such as Puff Daddy and P Diddy, and has signed contracts and collaborated on music production with names such as Usher, Lil’ Kim, TLC, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men. The male rapper has won three Grammy awards.
Over the decades, Diddy amassed a huge fortune, especially thanks to the wine business. In 2022, Diddy’s net worth reached about $1 billion, according to Forbes .
In addition to his reputation as a rap mogul, Diddy has been entangled in many accusations of physical assault. Since the 1990s, he has been described in many lawsuits as a violent man who uses his fame to prey on victims.
