Sabrina Ionescu’s Unstoppable Streak Raises Big Questions About Caitlin Clark

The talk of the WNBA this season has been Caitlin Clark and her rookie season with the Indiana Fever.

After Clark’s dominant run with the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2023-24 NCAA season and the NCAA Tournament, there were major expectations for the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft at the next level. So far, she’s played well for a rookie, averaging 16 points, six rebounds and five assists through her first 17 games.

With the spotlight on her, though, every bit of her game has been subject to major criticism.

That spotlight also brings comparisons to other players as well. One of the top players Clark is being compared to is New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft.

Ionescu is having a great season in 2024, averaging 19 points per game to go along with six rebounds and four assists. In her last two outings, she’s stuffed the stat sheet with a game of 31 points, nine assists, and two rebounds, and 24 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

This is the type of production that a lot of people thought Clark would bring to the WNBA right away.

Of course, both players can be great at the same time, and what Clark has done as a rookie is truly impressive. However, it’s fair to wonder why Ionescu hasn’t gotten even an ounce of the attention that Clark as gotten, despite putting up elite numbers.
