The world will finally see Kate Middleton again.

Two months after announcing her cancer diagnosis and six months since her last public appearance on Christmas Day, the Princess of Wales confirmed she will attend Trooping the Colour on Saturday—the annual state event that celebrates the British monarch’s birthday.

It was no formal statement: the Princess instead wrote a deeply personal announcement that touched on her ongoing cancer treatment. “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days, you feel weak, tired, and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well,” she wrote. “I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”

The princess also shared that she’s currently taking things day by day. “I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty,” she continued. “Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.”

Along with the statement, she shared a photograph of herself walking in the woods near her Windsor home. She wears a tan blazer and a pair of jeans as she looks solemnly out into the distance.

Her father-in-law, King Charles, will also attend the annual event as he battles his own cancer diagnosis.

Although Middleton has been private about her health over the past few months, the updates she has chosen to share have been remarkably personal, often written from her own point of view and describing the challenges she’s faced in detail, rather than have a press officer share an anonymous third-person statement. And when the princess announced her health battle in March, she did so through a video message rather than a press release. (“As you can imagine, it has taken time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment,” she said on camera, the emotion in her voice palpable. “But most importantly, it has taken time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them.”)

Now, with this high-profile appearance, it seems she’s ready to make her tentative first steps back into public life.
