Willow Smith is adding to the growing ongoing conversation swirling around Hollywood about ‘nepo babies‘ as the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

The 23-year-old singer made her acting debut at just 7 in father Will’s I Am Legend and she went platinum at just 10 years old with her hit song Whip My Hair.

During her cover story profile with Allure, promoting her sixth studio album Empathogen, dropping on Friday, she admitted to having ‘insecurity.’

‘I definitely think that a little bit of insecurity has driven me harder because people do think that the only reason I’m successful is because of my parents,’ she admitted.

‘That has driven me to work really hard to try to prove them wrong. But nowadays, I don’t need to prove s**t to anybody,’ she admitted.

Willow added, ‘I truly believe that my spirit is a strong spirit and that, even if my parents weren’t who they were, I would still be a weirdo and a crazy thinker.’

She added that being a Black woman doesn’t exactly qualify her to be a ‘nepo baby’ no matter who her parents are.

‘Being Black in America, even with privilege, which I’m never going to deny that I have, you’re still Black,’ she said.

‘And I love being Black. People would look at me and [say], “Okay, well, her parents are this and this and that, but she still is like me. She still has brown skin,”‘ she said.

‘And we all know that that doesn’t exempt you from anything, and that’s a place of connection,’ Smith stated.

She also address rumors and innuendo that claims she is ‘difficult’ to work with, which she wholly rejects.

‘I’ve always been afraid of being perceived as difficult. In this society, a woman who knows what she wants is always perceived as being “difficult,”‘ she said.

‘I’m not being difficult, I just know what I want. And I’m willing to sacrifice the chillness of the moment for trying to get to that goal,’ she explained.

She also admitted to being, ‘scarred,’ by her massive hit Whip My Hair at such a young age.

Smith’s new album Empathogen debuts on May 3 and features the singles Symptom of Life and Big Feelings.
