This year will be the second consecutive year the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not been invited to the Trooping the Colour parade celebrating the birthday of King Charles III.

According to People, Harry and Meghan will be absent from this year’s Trooping the Colour parade, which will take place in London on June 15. Last year, they were also not invited to the event, which commemorates the birthday of the British monarch.

The Sussexes currently reside in California after relinquishing their senior royal roles in early 2020. They have only attended Trooping the Colour together twice: in 2018 (one month after their wedding) and in 2019 (a few weeks after welcoming their first child).

After a hiatus of two years due to Covid-19, Trooping the Colour returned as an event in 2022, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. Harry and Meghan were in the UK at that time but did not participate alongside the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace as they had done before.

Most recently, Harry returned to his homeland in early May to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. However, the 39-year-old prince did not reunite with his father due to King Charles III’s busy schedule. Prior to that, the two fathers briefly met in February, shortly after the 75-year-old monarch announced his cancer diagnosis.

Therefore, King Charles III is expected to attend this year’s Trooping the Colour parade while still undergoing cancer treatment. Instead of riding a horse as he did last year, he will be seated in a carriage alongside Queen Camilla. It remains unclear whether his daughter-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge (who is also battling cancer), will be present at this year’s event. Since marrying Prince William in 2011, Kate has never missed a Trooping the Colour parade.”
