Jada Pinkett Smith is opening up how she felt being mocked in Chris Rock’s Netflix comedy special.

The Queen Cleopatra actress, 52, revealed in a new interview with The New York Times ahead of the publication of her memoir Worthy, out Oct. 17, that she had been hurt by what Rock, 58, said in Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.

“I remember my heart piercing, my heart cracking, and I remember my feelings being so hurt,” Jada told the outlet.

“And then I remember being able to smile and wish him well at the same time,” she continued.

In the special, Rock addressed the incident when Will Smith hit him onstage at last year’s Academy Awards ceremony, after he made a joke about Jada’s shaved head. He had also joked about entanglements, referring to the headline-making “entanglement” drama Will, 55, had with his wife during the Red Table Talk episode they did together, in which she admitted to having a relationship with singer August Aslina.

In Jada’s soon-to-be-released autobiography, she reveals that Rock once asked her out on a date amid rumors that she and Will were splitting.

“I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce. And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ ” she previously explained to PEOPLE of the situation.

“He was appalled,” Jada added. “And he profusely apologized and that was that.”

The Set It Off star also told PEOPLE that after Will slapped Rock onstage at the Oscars, Rock had tried to apologize during a pause in the broadcast.

“Chris came down to the end of the stage and tried to apologize to me,” she recalled. “He said, ‘I didn’t mean you any harm.’ I said, ‘I can’t talk about this now, Chris. This is some old s—.’ “

“I’ve got to leave that to Will and Chris to talk about, but they got their stuff for sure,” added Jada.

Jada’s book Worthy comes with numerous revelations, including one that she and Will have been separated for seven years.

In an interview with Hoda Kotb for an upcoming NBC News primetime special, Jada confirmed that it wasn’t “a divorce on paper,” as Kotb, 59, worded it, but “by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying.”

“I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” she told the television journalist.

The actress also said she “made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce,” explaining, “We will work through … whatever.”
