Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are reportedly on the brink of divorce after just two years of marriage.

Sources close to the couple say they have finalised the necessary paperwork with a final attempt to save their relationship ending in failure.

The news broke after it emerged that Affleck bought a new $20.5 million mansion in Pacific Palisades on July 24 – the same day as Lopez’s 55th birthday.

The couple recently listed their Beverly Hills mansion for sale for $68 million. Additionally, also on her birthday, Lopez finalized the sale of her four-bedroom New York City penthouse for $23 million, according to People.

A source told MailOnline: “They finalised the divorce papers with her a month ago, but are waiting for the right time to drop them.

“At that time, they will release a joint statement that will say how they have much love for each other and how they fought to make it work, but couldn’t.”

While another insider claimed: “Honestly, in the end they could not come to a compromise. What they had before is gone and they have both accepted it.”

The Standard has contacted Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s reps for comment.

The Hollywood couple, who were previously engaged before a high-profile split in 2004, got married in July 2022.However, rumours have been swirling for months that their relationship is struggling and that they were headed for divorce.

Lopez and Affleck haven’t been seen together since early June, choosing to celebrate both the Fourth of July and their July 16 wedding anniversary separately.

He was also noticeably absent from the Bridgerton-themed bash Lopez threw days days before her actual birthday.

Affleck meanwhile was seen in Los Angeles over the weekend with his children, Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12, who he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 52.

In May, Lopez responded sharply to a journalist who brought up the divorce rumours during a press conference for her Netflix film Atlas in Mexico city.

Video from a press conference shared on social media showed a reporter asking: “Is your divorce with Ben Affleck real? These rumours?

“What is the truth? Para le press le Mexicana [for the Mexican press], what is the truth of the situation?”

Lopez’s costar, Simu Liu, immediately interjected, saying: “Ok, we’re not doing that. Thank you so much guys, we really appreciate it. Thank you.”

She then leaned forward and looked directly at the reporter, responding, “You know better than that.”
