During Sunday’s NFL playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce generated quite a lot of social media buzz when he made Taylor Swift’s iconic heart signal following one of his touchdowns. But as it turns out, the signal actually wasn’t directed toward Swift at all.

During the most recent episode of his “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce clarified that the heart signal actually had nothing to do with Taylor Swift, who he has been dating for the past several months. Instead, the signal was for the Buffalo Bills fans in attendance who he said greeted him “with a lot of hate” ahead of the game. So he wanted to respond with love.

“Yeah, man, had to spread the love baby,” Travis Kelce said. “Always got to spread that love, baby.”

“Coming into a hostile environment, I respect it,” Kelce continued. “But I just wanted to make sure they knew it wasn’t mutual. I don’t hate you guys like you hate us. It’s all love. It’s all love baby.”

Obviously, this was disappointing news to everyone who thought the heart signal was a gesture of love to Taylor Swift, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

Though this might not have been the public display of affection everyone thought it was, the couple certainly has not been shy about their relationship.
