Syndication: The Indianapolis StarCaitlin Clark hits Leonie Fiebich with a nasty step-back 3-point shot

Caitlin Clark put the moves on Leonie Fiebich of the New York Liberty in their game on Thursday night in Indianapolis. Clark and the Indiana Fever had their home opening night against the WNBA Finals runner-ups and it did not end well for them.

With less than two minutes left in the third quarter, Clark shook off Fiebich with a dribble move before stepping back to hit a 3-point shot. It trimmed the Liberty’s lead to just 15 points. The fans inside the Gainbridge Fieldhouse cheered despite the lopsided nature of the game.

Here’s the video of Clark’s shot:

Caitlin Clark finished the game with nine points, seven rebounds and six assists. Clark went 2-for-8 from the field, including 1-for-7 from beyond the arc. She only had three turnovers for the game, so that was an improvement from her WNBA debut wherein she had 10 turnovers.

Clark also showed her all-around game by grabbing rebounds and making plays for her teammates. However, she will need to continue to be better with her efficiency and shooting. She was even in foul trouble in the game, so that’s another thing she will have to work on.

Breanna Stewart dominated the game with 31 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks on 12-for-21 shooting. Jonquel Jones had 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks, while Sabrina Ionescu added 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

It was a tough matchup for the Indiana Fever since the New York Liberty are one of the elite teams in the league. The lead was below 20 points entering the fourth quarter, but the Liberty decided to blow the Fever out in their own arena 102-66.

Indiana Fever fans call for head coach to be fired for misusing Caitlin Clark

After back-to-back losses to start the season, some Indiana Fever fans are calling for the franchise to fire head coach Christie Sides. Fans thought that Sides didn’t know how to use Caitlin Clark, who was made to stand in the corner at some points of the game with Erica Wheeler as a point guard.

Fans argued Clark needed to have the ball in her hands to be effective as a scorer and playmaker. Some are even calling for her former Iowa coach Lisa Bluder to come out of retirement and take charge of a talented Fever roster.

“Indiana Fever needs to fire Christie Sides asap. She is ruining Clark’s game not enhancing it. She sucks big time as a coach,” one fan wrote.

“Clark only has 5 shots attempted. Breanna Stewart has 14. Sabrina has 10. Caitlin Clark needs to shoot 25 times a night for this team to succeed, and it feels like Christie Sides isn’t giving her that green light,” another fan commented.

“Bluder knew how to maximize CC’s game. Get her out of retirement cuz Christie Sides isn’t doing CC any favors with her scheme. If she doesn’t make adjustments, she could be messing up the WNBA’s potential bag,” a fan remarked.
