According to a report, Prince William has visited his wife the Princess of Wales in hospital every day as she recovers from abdominal surgery – but their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have not joined him

Prince William has reportedly been at the Princess of Wales’ side every day since she was admitted to hospital – but their children are yet to visit their mum.

Kate was admitted to the London Clinic last Tuesday ahead of abdominal surgery, which will see her remain there for a total of 10 to 14 days. She is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter and William has cleared his diary of royal engagements too. The heir to the throne is temporarily stepping back from his royal role to care for Kate and look after their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

And according to The Sun, William has visited his wife every day in hospital in London’s Marylebone since her surgery over a week ago, but it is understood that their children have not yet been to see their mum. The publication adds that the youngsters are believed to have been at school during Kate’s hospital stay and they spent Sunday being looked after by their doting grandparents Carole and Michael Middleton – Kate’s mum and dad.

Kate is usually a hands-on mum who does the school run, attends her children’s school events and gets stuck in with activities. But according to HELLO!’s royal editor Emily Nash, Kate’s stay in the hospital won’t stop her from keeping up to date on what her children are up to and offering them comfort when needed.

She explained: “Kate loves FaceTiming the children when she is working away overseas so I’m sure they will be in regular contact while she’s in the hospital, and the kids will be keen to see her as soon as she’s well enough. She loves having her family around her so will be looking forward to getting home and having cuddles with the kids. Both William and Kate are very hands-on parents – they take the kids to school, attend sports matches and concerts and try to be home for bedtime as much as they can. While Kate is in hospital, William will be at home keeping things as normal as possible.”

Kensington Palace announced news of the princess’s surgery last Wednesday, with Buckingham Palace sparking a double royal health scare just 90 minutes later by revealing King Charles was preparing for treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King has also cancelled engagements ready for his corrective procedure in hospital this week, with the Queen urging her workaholic husband to take it easy.

Meanwhile, Kate was last week said to be “doing well”, with William spending time at her bedside. A royal source told The Sunday Times the Waleses have switched to “100 per cent family first, day job second”.

Aides insist the princess will be out of sight over the next few months but is likely to be working behind the scenes. “Her passion for the early years is clear – there will be a huge continuation of that campaign and she will be keen to be out continuing that conversation with the nation as soon as possible,” the source told the newspaper.

Kensington Palace has not revealed further details of the princess’s condition but confirmed it was non-cancerous. A spokesman said: “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible, and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”
