The Chicago Sky halted their two-game slide after defeating the LA Sparks, 83-73, in front of their hometown fans at the Wintrust Arena on Thursday.

It was a balanced attack that did it for the Sky, with at least four players scoring 14 points or more, led by Marina Mabrey, who finished with a team-high 20 points, 18 of which came from three on a crisp 6-of-11 shooting.

With the victory, Chicago improved to a 3-3 record for the ongoing WNBA season.

LA Sparks vs Chicago Sky Game Summary

Chicago had control of the game right from the get-go, taking a 26-15 lead by the end of the opening quarter. Chennedy Carter led the way for the strong start, winding up eight points, with Mabrey scoring six points of her own, both from three.

They would sustain such command in the second frame en route to establishing an even bigger lead of 18 points, 49-31, at the halftime break.

But in the third quarter, the visiting Sparks showed more fight, outscoring the Sky, 27-18, to narrow the gap to nine points, 67-58, heading into the final frame. Dearica Hamby showed the way for her team in the spirited run, scoring 10 of his game-high 24 points in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the two teams struggled with their offense. The Sparks tried to claw their way back further, but could only come within nine points a number of times, the last one at 78-69 with 2:16 left in the game after a free throw made by rookie Rickea Jackson before the Sky closed things out.

The victory was also the first home win for the Sky after opening the season with two straight losses at home.

Strong start goes a long way for Chicago Sky in win over LA Sparks

The Chicago Sky did their cause a big favor by coming out with a strong start to their game against the LA Sparks on Thursday.

Carter, who was averaging 10 points heading into the game, in particular, was solid, nearly notching her average in just the opening canto with eight points on 3-of-4 shooting and 1-2 from three.

And from there the rest of the pack followed suit, notably leading scorer Mabrey, who was efficient from downtown at 54.4% shooting. Elizabeth Williams and Dana Evans also delivered to complete the end-to-end victory.

The Sky next play on Saturday against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever (1-8) on the road.
