The budding stars of the WNBA, Caitlin Clark, and Angel Reese, met for a nail-biting game on Sunday. The thrilling game finished with the latter having the last laugh, but there was a positive note for both the players, their teams, and the league.
The Wintrust Arena saw fans pour in in large numbers to watch the two alleged arch rivals, Reese and Clark, showcase their best on the hardwood. The crowd was pumped up and entertained throughout the Indiana Fever versus Chicago Sky game, which was also televised on ESPN so that basketball enthusiasts could witness it sitting in the comfort of their homes.
On seeing such a massive crowd in Chicago, Reese felt proud of the direction the women’s sport was heading in. When asked about her take on the matter, the Sky forward said, “It’s good for women’s basketball, but also for women’s sports… You know everyone’s watching right now… I think both teams did an amazing job putting on a show. It was fun.”
The Sky faced two losses in their last two meet-ups with the Fever. However, this time, they were determined to snatch the 88-87 victory. After taking the lead in the first quarter, they gave in to the dominance of the away team. While everyone believed the game was over, the Sky bounced back and took the lead in the last few seconds, and Reese helped a lot with that.
Angel Reese Has Her Best Game in Sky Colors
When Caitlin Clark is on the hardwood it’s difficult to grab the spotlight, but Angel Reese succeeded on Sunday. She was impressed with her numbers and played a vital role in her team’s win.
Till the third quarter, when the Fever were in the lead, Reese took matters into her hands. The former LSU forward contributed 10 points and 5 rebounds in the final quarter, helping her team to get back on track. Reese finished the game in her most classic style by putting up yet another double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds, recording her career-high scores.
Reese has often been the target of criticism due to her seemingly questionable behavior toward Caitlin Clark, but she put the spotlight on herself only through her performance on Monday night. With this win, the Sky moved ahead of the Fever in the Eastern Conference table.
