MLS will face a team of all-stars from Liga MX, the Mexican top-flight of soccer, July 24 at Lower.com Field in Columbus. The two leagues will face each other in a skills contest July 23 at the same venue. MLS last used the MLS-versus-Liga MX format for its all-star game in 2022 at Minnesota United FC’s Allianz Field.

Liga MX is yet to name its roster.

Acosta has become an All-Star Game fixture. The 2024 selection marked his third year in a row at the annual summer showcase. The FC Cincinnati captain was a second-half substitute for the game in Minnesota in 2022 and then captained the MLS team in 2023 against Arsenal FC of the English Premier League at D.C. United’s Audi Field.

Acosta was voted into the 2024 All-Star Game, as was Robinson. Orellano was hand-picked for the team by Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy, who will be the head coach for MLS against Liga MX.

For Robinson, the All-Star Game nod is the second of his career (2021). It remains to be seen if he’ll be available to play in the July 25 match. If selected to participate with the U.S. Olympic team, Robinson would likely be unavailable as the U.S. has its opening group-stage match against France scheduled for July 24.

Orellano, who remains on-loan to FC Cincinnati from Brazilian club Vasco de Gamma, is a debut all-star.
