Former NFL Star’s Nickname For Caitlin Clark Has WNBA Fans Furious

Caitlin Clark’s WNBA arrival has come with a flurry of discourse around the sports world.

Countless fans and media personalities are chiming in with their opinions about the WNBA’s treatment of Clark early in her rookie season — including former All-Pro NFL running back LeSean McCoy.

During Monday’s episode of “Speak” on FS1, McCoy weighed in with his thoughts on the league’s treatment of this year’s No. 1 overall pick.

McCoy said the W needs to protect Clark as the “Messiah.”

“You have the Messiah there. No one was watching women’s basketball [before Clark],” he said.
McCoy sent a stern warning to the WNBA — suggesting that the physical play and calls going against Clark could ultimately result in her losing her “passion for the game.”

“We have Michael Jordan, Tom Brady wearing No. 22 for the Indiana Fever — Caitlin Clark. You’ve got to monetize that and make sure she’s protected enough. … It should be certain calls she should get,” McCoy said.

“There are certain calls that need to be called right away to send a message to the league,” he continued. “Because if you don’t and this girl gets mad enough where she says ‘You know what, I don’t have the passion for the game anymore. I’m gonna get out of here.'”

“If she does that we all lose. … If she’s not playing, I’m not watching.”
