JASON Kelce has revealed the Philadelphia Eagles still wanted an email confirming he was retiring despite having already given his emotional 45-minute farewell speech.

Center Kelce announced in March he would be retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons with the Eagles.

But speaking on his New Heights podcast with brother Travis this week, he said the Eagles still asked for an email saying he would retire, suggesting it was “bureaucracy at its finest”.

“Was the video of me crying not enough?” Jason asked with a laugh on Wednesday’s episode.

Jason’s career has gone down as a truly great one in the sport.

His high point came when he helped the Eagles to Super Bowl glory with victory over the New England Patriots in Minneapolis in 2018.

And he admits three months after that retirement announcement that not being on Eagles duty is really taking some adjusting.

“I’m still getting used to it. It still feels weird not going into the building and just the little conversations you have,” he said.

“You’ll realise it Trav, once it’s gone.”

Travis responded instantly to that point.

“I’m never doing it. Not after that speech dude,” Travis said.

“No, f**k that. I don’t want to go through that.”

Jason appeared in a second Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2023, but that time it ended in defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs.

He then retired following an Eagles defeat in the play-offs early this year.

“I am very proud knowing where I was once was and the legacy I have left behind,” he said at that emotional press conference.

“There is no chance I’d be here without the bond Travis and I share.

‘It was a short retirement!’

Jason Kelce didn’t stay retired in the NFL for long.

The former Philadelphia Eagles lineman called it quits after the 2023 season.

But he will be part of ESPN’s coverage on Monday Night Football in 2024.

Kelce will appear on Monday Night Countdown from 6pm-8pm ET every week as well as during the halftime show.

“Turns out, it was a short retirement!” he joked.

“ESPN was a consistent presence in our household growing up and the network helped shape who I am and my love of all sports.

“To now appear on that same screen is a full circle moment.

“And, I mean it’s freaking Monday Night Football! and I’m ready for some football.”

“It is only too poetic that I found my career being fulfilled in the city of brotherly love.

“Some people struggle to play in this city. I considered it a blessing to play in the most passionate sports town in America.

“Thank you Philadelphia, for letting me represent this city.”

As well as working on the podcast, Jason is now able to spend more time with his family.

In the 2024 season to come, he will be an ESPN analyst for their Monday Night Football coverage.

His first game will see the New York Jets face the San Francisco 49ers.
