Tonight might’ve be the biggest night in music, but the queen of rap Nicki Minaj has decided not to grace the 66th annual Grammy Awards with her presence, despite receiving two nominations.
Fans were looking forward to seeing Minaj on the red carpet and ceremony, but unfortunately they may have to wait until the 2025 award show, when her latest album Pink Friday 2, which dropped on Dec. 8, 2023, will be eligible for awards.
For this year’s event, Minaj received two nominations for “Barbie World” featuring Ice Spice from the Barbie movie soundtrack: Best Song Written For Visual Media and Best Rap Song, in particular. She lost in both categories. The Recording Academy, however, made a brief mix-up before the broadcast, incorrectly tweeting that “Barbie World” had won for Best Rap Song instead of the actual winner, “Scientists & Engineers” by Killer Mike featuring André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane.
Prior to this year, Minaj’s last time being nominated for a Grammy was in 2016, so fans held on to hope that she would make an appearance. She has not attended the show since 2015.
Minaj has been nominated for a total of 12 Grammys since 2011, but she sadly hasn’t won one just yet, making her one of the most-nominated artists without a win.
