South African rapper Cassper Nyovest, known by his stage name Cassper, is calling attention to the high rates of violence in the country.
This comes after fellow musician Kabza De Small cancelled an event due to safety concerns. Cassper took to Twitter, expressing his frustration: “This is what South Africa has come to. Brother it’s Bad, we are not safe and not enough is being done!!! Does anyone feel safe in this country?”
He went on to highlight a statement that speaks to the irrelevance of the hate that leads to these killings. He said, “With the advancement of humanity, we should be closer to one another yet we hate each other more. People still want to kill each other though we understand one another more than we used to.”
Cassper ended his tweets with a call for hope: “Our country needs prayer. We need God. We cannot rely on the flesh or human beings.”
Cassper’s comments point to a very real concern for many South Africans. The country has a well-documented problem with violence, and Kabza De Small’s decision to cancel his event is just one example. Hopefully, by speaking out, Cassper can help raise awareness and lead to positive change.
