Team USA Coach Justified Caitlin Clark Decision With Eight Words

When the final Team USA roster was announced earlier this month, Caitlin Clark’s name was not listed on the 12-woman team.

The decision to leave Clark off the team for this summer’s 2024 Paris Olympic Games sparked outrage and controversy around the WNBA world.

Some feel Clark’s superstardom should’ve earned her a roster spot representing the U.S. this summer. Others feel she still has a lot left to prove before she earns that honor.

Team USA coach Cheryl Reeve clearly supports the selection committee’s decision to leave Clark off the roster.

Earlier this year, the Minnesota Lynx coach justified the decision with eight words.

“I’ve never been in the trenches with her,” Reeve said, via Nancy Armour of USA TODAY Sports.

Clark responded to the Team USA decision with class.

“I think it just gives you something to work for,” the Indiana Fever rookie said. “It’s a dream. Hopefully one day I can be there. I think it’s just a little more motivation. You remember that. Hopefully when four years comes back around, I can be there.”

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) looks up at the scoreboard on Sunday June 16, 2024, during the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Fever beat the Sky 91-83.

Clark and the Fever will face off against Angel Reese and the rival Chicago Sky on Sunday afternoon.
