After not securing a new NBA contract during free agency, veteran guard Patrick Beverly has decided to make a significant change in his career. Beverley has signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. The move surprised many, as he opted for a lesser-known league over continuing in the NBA.

In a recent episode of his podcast, Beverley explained his decision.

They gave me everything I asked for. I couldn’t refuse,” Beverley said.

The former NBA player later shared his desire to continue playing at a high level rather than remaining inactive.

“If someone wants to pay you to play basketball at a high level, man, go hoop. I’m not about to be at home in September, October posting workout videos,” Beverley added.

Beverley’s last NBA contract was with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he signed a one-year, $3.1 million deal.

Patrick Beverly’s NBA Career Highlights

Patrick Beverly began his NBA career after being selected 42nd overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. He most recently played for the Milwaukee Bucks. In February 2024, the Philadelphia 76ers traded him to the Bucks in exchange for Cameron Payne and a 2027 second-round pick.

“You know, NBA world, obviously, as a player, everything happens so fast. My time with the Sixers was great. I built some great relationships there. I was playing some of the best basketball I think I’ve ever played since I’ve been in the NBA. But obviously, you know, trade deadlines—this was the only trade I was kind of surprised by. I didn’t see this coming,” he said after the trade.

Beverley played 47 games during his time with the Sixers. He averaged 6.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. Throughout his NBA career, Patrick Beverly has also played for several other teams, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Chicago Bulls.
