How Chris Hemsworth met his match in Extraction 2!

It won’t be wrong to say that Thor’s role is Chris Hemsworth’s magnum opus. The Norse god was one of Marvel’s original team of Avengers, even forming a part of the team that took on Loki and the Chitauri in the Battle of New York.

He’s been one of the mainstays in the Industry. No wonder that he felt sad with giving his faithfuls an experience to forget in Thor: Love and Thunder. The 2022 flick failed to build on the success of Thor: Ragnarok, one of the Men in Black: International star’s biggest regret. But there is another role that gave him a lot of headache.

Chris Hemsworth was not a big fan of Thor: Love and Thunder

That Thor: Love and Thunder was a shadow of Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok is no secret. The movie had a lot of potential. However, the way the flick handled Christian Bale’s Gorr, the God Butcher was indeed criminal, and even the presence of Natalie Portman could not save the movie beyond a certain extent.

It might have been a commercial success, amassing a whopping $760 million at the Box Office. But Hemsworth feels that there is more to a movie than just the numbers. And Love and Thunder didn’t turn out as well as he would have wanted it to.

The actor would make an iconic statement, saying,

“I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.”

No wonder all he wants is a chance at redemption and essay Thor once more. But while there exists a role that he can’t get out of his head, there is another which he can’t get out of his head even if he’s dying to.

Chris Hemsworth has had a hard time pulling off his stunts for Extraction 2

Chris Hemsworth has been associated with the Extraction franchise for sometime now. The Netflix original has garnered the attention of people from round the world. Who hasn’t fallen in love with Tyler Rake, and the mind numbing action sequences he’s been a part of. And what many find hard to believe is the fact that Hemsworth did it all himself.

It is the result of the 40-year-old’s commitment of bringing to life something which feels original that eggs him on to push his limits. But it ain’t easy on him. Extraction 2 is not short on action sequences. And one can only imagine how Hemsworth would have pulled through all of them. In a conversation, he highlighted two that actually terrified him.

Chris Hemsworth had to give that 21 minute sequence everything he got

In the course of his interaction with Associate Press Entertainment, Chris Hemsworth shared more details on what went behind the scenes, including information about two scenes that were a handful for the Australian star. The first involved Hemsworth standing atop a train running at 40 miles, while dealing with a helicopter flying right ahead. Elaborating more about the scene, Hemsworth said,

“That said, the one that scared me the most was being on top of a moving train that was going 40 miles an hour and having a helicopter 20 feet in front of me flying backwards. And then [director] Sam [Hargrave] in the middle, filming the whole thing.”

The scene is a part of the 21-minute long headlining action sequence that for many is the crowning jewel of Extraction 2. But at the very start of the sequence, there is a scene where he sets himself on fire and fights his way out. It was a hit. The movie’s action sequences were hailed as something to boast about. But none of it changes the point that Chris Hemsworth was actually terrified of going ahead with them.
